Preparations are well under way in the Heritage Area for the 150th Heckington Show this summer. We thought we would try to have a bit of a Victorian theme for the occasion, so we welcome the Travelling Palace of Curiosities [a Victorian travelling show] and the Ragged Victorians who will wander throughout the area over the whole weekend. Perhaps you might meet the 'Artful Dodger' or the travelling quack seller? Some of our regulars are also putting on a Victorian theme - Forgotten Fayre will be letting you sample a Victorian tea party, and the Mint will feature replica Victorian coins and tokens.
Other newcomers to the Show include Lincolnshire Film Archive, who will be showing materials from their archive in the Heritage marquee; Far Welter'd, the society that showcases traditional Lincolnshire dialect; Wocko the Woodman makes a first appearance in our craft area, which also sees the return of the South Yorkshire Bodgers, traditional pole-lathe turners. The South Lincolnshire Natural Health Group will feature traditional herbal medicines and healing inside the marquee.
There will be the return of some of your favourite World War One exhibits from last year. And of course you can be entertained as usual by the dancers of American West, the music of the Lincolnshire Waites, make your own Victorian-style tile or a corn dolly, bring your archaeological finds for identification, and find out about many of the heritage venues open across Lincolnshire. As usual there will be plenty to keep all the family entertained in the Heritage Area - and all for free!
