Heritage

Most people are interested in the past, and the Heritage Area seeks to build on that interest. Whether it is ‘Living History’ groups reconstructing the past, craftsmen carrying on old crafts, local heritage groups publicizing their activities, or just fun things for the children to do, you will find plenty to keep you interested and engaged.

For 2010 the main 'Living History' camp is the Northern Forties, who are a World War Two re-enactment group. Between them, they represent the British, French and German forces during WW2, as well as civilians on the home front. What could be a more appropriate way to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of the war?

We have our own small performance area where, throughout the Show, you will find demonstrations and events taking place featuring those exhibiting in the Heritage Area.

The main attraction of the Heritage area in 2009 was the Saxon Encampment. Not only was there warriors rampaging around the area but there also traders, farmers and merchants, all happy to show you what England really was like around the time of the Battle of Hastings. They were also performing in the main ring on both Saturday and Sunday.

                    Heritage     Heritage

In 2010 we will again have a continuous performance in the Heritage Area throughout the weekend, where you will find something to interest everyone, from Medieval Knights training and fighting to Veteran Bikes. Haven’t you always wondered how you ride a Penny Farthing? This year is the chance to have a go at metal detecting with the Iceni Search Group.

The marquee will again be full to bursting with things for you and the children to do – try your hand at an archaeological dig, visit Ancient Greece, make your own pot, spin your own wool or trace your Lincolnshire ancestors.

Schools Competition

Last year's competition asked you to tell us: "What would you leave behind for an archaeologist in the future to discover, and why?"  Entries can be written or a drawing or painting, a note, a time capsule.... you decide.

If you or your organisation would like to appear in the Heritage area please contact the organisers, Sue and Alf Wilkinson
